Daily Light on the Daily Path is a collection of 365 morning and evening daily scripture readings compiled by the Bagster family (in the 1800s) out of their family devotions. The great thing about it is that it is completely scripture, collected by topic. It gives a great little chunk to meditate on throughout the day and memorize, too!
Here's the description on Amazon:
As a child Samuel Bagster learned the precepts and practices of a devoted Christian, which sustained him throughout his life and which, in turn, he passed on to his children. This highly principled and religiously minded bookshop owner gathered his large family together daily for reading God's Word, testing their knowledge by connecting the day's verses with other passages, and praying over how it could be applied. It was from this practice of worship that the Bagster family compiled the material for Daily Light on the Daily Path.
It is said that this daily devotional book is the most popular of all time. It has touched hundreds of thousands of Christians to the remotest corners of the world with the biblical message of comfort and help. Originally printed in the 1800s, this work is timeless because each reading is a connection of Scripture verses centered around a theme. Crossway is delighted to re-release this classic book in the beautiful and clear language of the English Standard Version.
Anyway, whether you're a new Christian, a bored Christian, looking to start family devotions, or someone who just wants to see more of what the Bible says, I commend this resource to you. Many different versions are available (NIV, ESV, NKJ, etc.), depending on what you like to read. Personally, I am just reading the ESV version online.
For example, here's what I read today:
Has his steadfast love forever ceased?
His steadfast love endures forever.—“The Lord is slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love.”—Who is a God like you, pardoning iniquity. . . . He does not retain his anger forever, because he delights in steadfast love. He will again have compassion on us; he will tread our iniquities under foot. You will cast all our sins into the depths of the sea.—He saved us, not because of works done by us in righteousness, but according to his own mercy.
Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our affliction, so that we may be able to comfort those who are in any affliction, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God.
A merciful and faithful high priest in the service of God, to make propitiation for the sins of the people. For because he himself has suffered when tempted, he is able to help those who are being tempted.
Ps. 77:8; Ps. 136:23; Num. 14:18; Mic. 7:18, 19; Titus 3:5; 2 Cor. 1:3, 4; Heb. 2:17, 18
I hope this benefits and encourages you like it has helped me! Just wanted to pass it on!
